Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) is an undergraduate/post-bachelor interdepartmental major in the School of Education . FCS offers two undergraduate concentrations: Family and Consumer Sciences Education - which prepares graduates for a secondary teacher license; and Family and Consumer Sciences - which prepares graduates for positions in agencies, government, and businesses.
Colorado State University is the only institution of higher education in Colorado offering a degree in Family and Consumer Sciences. Because the Family and Consumer Sciences program is interdepartmental/interdisciplinary, FCS students take a broad range of courses which provide them with the breadth of content they will be expected to utilize in their future careers. Our students are qualified to take on any FCS position with a base of knowledge in multiple content areas.
Students study the roles of individuals within families and as consumers while gaining insight into the choices that impact daily personal and family well being. They have the expertise to critically examine decisions and problems and suggest solutions based on a holistic approach.
